What Is Rebirth?
When we pass away, some people think it means the end and that there is nothing after death. But, some believe that there is such a thing as life after death, known as rebirth. In rebirth, our souls are renewed and revived into a different person or animal being born. When we are reborn, we do not remember our past selves—our souls have been restored to new rather than a new soul being created. Rebirth has been a long-respected belief since it shows that our souls are not done when we die, that we are still useful, even if we do not remember being reborn. Rebirth can help people afraid of death not be as afraid, knowing that their souls will still have a purpose once reborn. We will learn more about rebirth and its importance so that you do not fear death either.
Rebirth in Religions
Rebirth is a common topic across many religions. All religions have a concept of rebirth, and we will see what different religions have to say about rebirth to better understand it.
Hinduism
Hinduism is one of the oldest religions in the world and is the most well-known believer in reincarnation. Death is not the end of a person’s soul, but instead, it comes back to life in a different form based on past intentions the soul experienced on earth. The cycle the soul goes through will help them ultimately reach salvation known as Moksha. With enough reincarnations, the soul will find salvation and unite with “The One,” and be free of the cycle.
Buddhism
Buddhism believes that rebirth is caused by the actions a person takes. If someone did not live a selfless life, they are reincarnated to try again. Reincarnation may not always be on earth, though, as there are six realms souls can be reincarnated in.
Jainism
Jainism believes souls are immortal and cycle through millions of lives, known as samsara. Karma dictates what the soul gets reincarnated as until they are liberated and can reach Siddhas, the world of ultimate comfort.
Rebirth and Ostara
During the spring equinox, Wiccans hold a celebration known as Ostara. During this time, Wiccans celebrate the end of winter and the revival of nature. Resurrection is a crucial figure during Ostara as nature is coming back to life after surviving the harsh struggles of winter. To show spring that it is well received, Witches can perform rituals that highlight thankfulness that they can perform on their own or with their coven. During Ostara, rituals of rebirth should be held on altars to show the significance of the rebirth to Wiccan culture. There are many variations of rituals that can be performed to celebrate rebirth that anyone can do, but you must be sure the ritual includes an aspect of every element to ensure it works. You can begin performing Ostara rituals starting mid-March to the end of March.
Symbols of Rebirth
Having symbols of rebirth on you or near you can prepare your soul for the future when you no longer need it and it is ready to be born again.
Phoenix
Phoenixes are colorful, mythological birds that symbolize rebirth and regeneration. They are associated with fire as they have a burning passion. At the end of their lives, phoenixes make a nest and burst into flames. A new phoenix is born from the ashes, thus starting the cycle over.
Ouroborus
The ouroboros is an ancient Greek symbol of a snake or dragon eating its tail. It dies by eating itself and is reincarnated by self-fertilization. It shows that things change but never disappear.
5 Steps for Rebirth
These five steps are meant to prepare your soul for when it is ready to part, not take your life instantly. Think of it as a way to get your soul ready, so it will have an easier transition period when you are tucked away, and a new host can take the reigns.
Create Space
Take time to de-clutter and clean your home. Donate what you no longer need, perform a smudging spell, and meditate in your sacred place. By making physical and spiritual space, you will make room for new beginnings.
Plant
Planting seeds will express you trying to plant your roots and grow into a better person. As you plant the seeds, think about how you can improve all aspects of your life. Infuse your intentions in the soil and keep the plant alive to ensure your goals are met.
Spend Time in Nature
Spending time in nature will bring you a sense of peace and tranquility that calms the soul. A soul at ease will help it transition to a new soul at the end.
Use Fire Spells
Fire brings vitality, power, and purity. Doing spells with magick can boost your soul’s strength and prepare it for its new life.
Make a Spring Altar
Since reincarnation and Ostara go hand in hand, it is an ideal time to make a spring altar to stimulate growth and regeneration in your soul. You can pray, perform spells, and bless items on the altar to help knowledge flow into your soul.
Being reborn is something every soul should have the right to experience. Even if we do not remember being reborn, there is a high chance that our soul has been shared over generations in different minds and bodies. We need to honor rebirth to ensure that our souls will be treated well once we no longer need it.
Death is nothing to fear, and neither is rebirth. We should be glad to know that our souls will continue to live on past our consciousness, that it can still be amongst the land of the living trying to make the world a better place. Now that you understand rebirth better, you can honor it better during rituals or perform a specific one during Ostara. However you celebrate rebirth, remember always to show it respect.
