What Are the Clair Senses?

Just as we have the five dominant physical senses of sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch, we all have clair senses. Clair senses develop at a soul level in much the same way as physical senses develop in the body.

The difference is that from an early age, we're encouraged to use and develop our physical senses, whereas clair senses get suppressed. Pre-school children frequently use these senses spontaneously, but adults discourage them, so they let them go.

Small children commonly speak of past lives or play with imaginary friends, and it gets put down to an over-active imagination and sometimes even lies. Little people soon realize that their reality attracts adverse reactions, so they ignore what they know until their clair senses become wholly inhibited.

Since we learn from our parents and caregivers, we grow up believing anything that can't be proven isn't real.

Physical sensory deprivation directly affects the nervous system because the brain relies on sensory input to maintain balance. Similarly, when we live without our clair senses, we suffer distress of the soul that usually manifests as insecurity, anxiety, worry, fear, and even depression.

We Can Redevelop What We Lost

Luckily we can work on our soul senses and learn how to use them again. If you've repressed your innate instincts for a long time, be patient and allow your senses to come to life at their own pace.

One of the main reasons people give up is that they come in with high expectations and compare their development. Don't do that! Usually, we have more than one dominant sense, but we're all unique. Spirit always takes the path of least resistance and will communicate with you

through your natural talents.

For example, if you prefer auditory communication and love listening to music and other sounds, you'll likely be more clairaudient. And because someone else sees forms and images doesn't mean that you will. However, you'll use your clair senses and come to the same conclusions even though the message is delivered by different means.

Look at it as a good story. You can read it in a book, listen to an audiobook, or watch a series or movie. In the end, you know what it's about no matter how you took it in.

Getting to Know Your Clair Senses

In all, there are eight, and here's an explanation of each:

Clairvoyance – clear seeing

Probably the best-known clair sense, clairvoyance is receiving extrasensory depictions and symbols in the mind. It's directly connected with the brow chakra and can appear in vivid dreams, visions, and flashes of insight.

The info can be transferred as images or in motion like a movie. Clairvoyants can also see auras around people and all living things, as well as in places – meaning they can sense the energy of a house, for instance.

Past (post cognizance), present, and future (pre cognizance) can come through, and it's often spontaneous. We can learn how to control the flow of information, though, once we know how to use this sense. The best way is to cast a circle of protection and work with guides, asking that we only get details when we need to.

Claircognizance – clear knowing

A common form of spirit communication, claircognizance, is to have knowledge of something that appears to come from nowhere. It can be a premonition about an upcoming incident or experience of a subject we haven't been exposed to previously.

We can experience it as an instant download of info that we believe wholeheartedly, even though we don't know why. Or it can be a nagging thought that tugs us in a particular direction. In this instance, the idea usually won't stop until we act.

Clairaudience – clear hearing

Hearing spirit through sound, noise, or spoken words. Spirit can try to draw our attention through sounds which can be external or internal. Clairaudients often hear someone calling their name or a random comment giving them advice.

Although it can come through as a voice, it might come as a loud thought that travels through the mind commanding attention. We can't miss it. Spirit helps us with everyday problems in this way. Let's say you're traveling in a strange place and you're lost. Despite your panic, a prominent thought breaks through, saying, "turn here." You can't not hear it – it's loud, clear, and confident. You take the turn and find the place you want to be.

Clairempathy – clear emotion

Many empaths struggle with the effects of clairempathy until they learn how to control it. People who can sense the emotions of others can be high in emotional intelligence and make good leaders. They can sense how other people feel without being told, so they respond with empathy and understanding.

However, when we don't know how to handle clairempathy, we can engage others' emotions and end up being personally affected. This can become very challenging because we're not dealing with spirit energy, but rather the energy of everything and everyone around us.

To benefit from clairempathy rather than be burdened by it, we must learn to acknowledge emotions but not allow them into our personal space and emotions.

Clairsentience – clear physical feeling

The ability to physically feel the pain or experience of others is clairsentience. Have you ever watched a rock climber and felt your feet curl up and your palms start to sweat? That's experiencing what someone else is physically going through.

Regularly paired with clairempathy, clairsentients' live' the reality of others through physical pain or pleasure. Many natural healers can diagnose health conditions through clairsentience. We also all experience it from time to time through gut-feel or butterflies in the stomach.

Clairtangency – clear touch

Also known as psychometry, clairtangency is the ability to access information through holding or being close to objects or people. Shaking someone's hand can transmit a sudden flash of insight, for better or worse. And holding things or sitting close by can relay info from the past, present, or future.

Clairtangents can access energy transferred into objects by many different people and events, and readers often use it to enhance tarot or psychic readings. Again, it's something that must be controlled; otherwise, it can become overwhelming as messages flash from every direction, particularly in crowded and public places.

Clairsalience – clear smell

A fragrance or odor can trigger info and even visions of people, things, and events. Clairsalience usually complements other clair senses to give a clear picture. It's the ability to smell without using the nose or having the source present.

Past life regression or communicating with souls who have crossed over regularly involves clairsalience. Let's say a close friend or relative wants to come through. They can use clairsalience by reminding us of their favorite flower, fragrance, or even cigarette smoke. Whatever we'll recognize them by. Occasionally, they can even convey smells present at the time of their passing, particularly if we're concerned about how they died.

Clairgustance – clear tasting

In the same vein as clairsalience, clairgustance is the ability to taste without using the taste buds or having any source present. Taste and smell work closely together, so clairgustance usually goes together with clairsalience and works much the same way.
