Red jasper is a potent but gentle stone that can be found all over the world. It belongs to the quartz family and gets the beautiful red shades from iron deposits. There are records of red jasper being used for healing and protection across continents for centuries. Ancient warriors carried red jasper amulets or had red jasper stones embedded into the handles of their swords and daggers for courage, strength, protection and victory.
Depending on where the stone originates, the color varies from deep orange through to brick red and even maroon. They have grey, black, brown or beige striations that can be very prominent or finely spread throughout.
Today the properties of red jasper are just as important to us. The stone is readily available as rough or tumbled stones, carved pieces, charms and jewelry, making it easy to incorporate it into our daily lives.
Correspondences of Red Jasper
Red jasper is one of the stones associated with Beltane and is widely used in Beltane rituals and spell work. Other correspondences for rituals and spells include:
Metaphysical Properties of Red Jasper
We can use red jasper for physical, mental, emotional and spiritual healing and wellbeing. It also offers protection, grounding, guidance in meditation and helps raise physical and spiritual energy. Red jasper has a powerful stimulating effect, producing heat and working to speed things up.
Physically Reactions of Red Jasper
Red jasper enhances blood circulation, strengthens blood vessels and stimulates the activity of the heart. It's used in the treatment of anemia, detoxification, menstrual problems, to staunch bleeding and to improve fertility.
During pregnancy, wearing red jasper is said to promote fetal growth and limit birthing complications. It should, however, not be used closely around babies and small children (pets can be sensitive to it too). The stimulating properties can lead to restlessness and even hyperactivity.
Known as a stone of strength and endurance (that’s why ancient warriors used it), red jasper is excellent for people whose jobs require physical strength and endurance. It makes a great partner for anyone who partakes in outdoor activities and sport as well.
Emotionally Connections of Red Jasper
Also known as a stone of empowerment, red jasper can be used to reactivate and heal emotions.
Whether it’s a relationship that’s lost its spark, emotional lethargy and apathy or the thrill of living that’s evaporated, red jasper will reignite passions and interest. Sexual desire can also be cooled or rekindled.
It’s particularly potent for resisting domination, making it an ideal companion in any abusive situation such as domestic abuse or school/workplace bullying.
Because of its association with the base chakra, red jasper is especially helpful with resolving and healing emotional trauma related to sex. It can aid in finding clarity with gender orientation, sexual violence, sexual shame and also sexual betrayal.
Mentally
A racing or distracted mind can be brought back into focus with red jasper. It can reactivate enthusiasm for work or projects where interest is beginning to wane. Red jasper stimulates creativity as well as the desire to take creative ideas and turn them into reality.
Spiritually
Red jasper stimulates the inner passions and fire of the soul. It’s strongly aligned with fairness and opens up a willingness to cooperate and work in harmony with other people and all that is. Because it’s associated with fire, it encourages acceptance, letting go and moving forward.
We can use red jasper to realign, clear, activate and strengthen all chakras by placing a stone on each chakra. Or we can awaken the kundalini serpent in the base chakra and allow it to spiral up through each chakra to the crown.
Although it's associated with the base chakra, red jasper also resonates with the sacral and solar plexus chakras making it an excellent tool for grounding and centering. Red jasper connects us to the earth and reminds us that we, too, are inextricably linked to nature. It can be used to grow our association with the earth and nature and also better understand nature's cycles, including traumatic natural disasters.
Psychic attack can be warded off with red jasper. It’s also beneficial in dreamwork because it helps to recall dreams with clarity and precision.
How to use Red Jasper in Everyday Life
Place stones around your house to keep the environment joyful, focused and proactive. Keep a piece on your desk to help you stay productive and engaged. If you want to conceive, wear red jasper jewelry or pop a tumbled stone into your left bra cup. You can also put a stone under your pillow.
For negativity, put red jasper any place where you want to ward off bad luck, for example, by a door to keep toxic people out, or in your purse to not lose money. Red jasper in your car can help avert accidents or road-rage incidents. Around your workstation, it can stop bullies or unhealthy competition. It directs toxic energy back to the sender.
