The acacia tree is a genus of the pea family. It’s native to tropical and subtropical regions and a common sight in savannas. Its leaves are distinct as they are small, finely divided fernlike leaflets. The flowers are usually yellow but can sometimes be white and have a fuzzy appearance. They can also produce legumes with varying appearances depending on the species of acacia. To us, the acacia tree is important economically as its gum and bark are used in many beneficial ways, including dyes, inks, and pharmaceuticals. Aside from its use in industry, the acacia tree also has magickal properties. Together, we will learn how we Witches can use the acacia tree in our Witchcraft in regards to both its magickal and healing properties, as well as what an acacia tree is if you live in an area they aren’t common.
Different Types of Acacias Tree
Five species of acacia make up this subspecies. Depending on your region, you may be nearer only one of these trees as each has its specific needs to grow properly. Take a look at the different species and figure out if you happen to live near one or not before trying to obtain pieces of this tree for your spells.
Silver Wattle
This large tree with yellow flowers maintains its colors year-round as it’s evergreen. It is the most common acacia tree in the United Kingdom and is often planted in public gardens.
Sydney Gold Wattle
This acacia is shrub-like, with hairless twigs decorated with pale golden flowers that bloom from July to August. It is commonly found in dry, bare areas or coastal regions.
Hickory Wattle
This is less common than other acacia species, as it is mainly found on the islands surrounding Papua New Guinea. It can grow as tall as 12 meters and has grey bark and sickle-shaped leaves.
Black Wattle
This tree blooms between July and September and mainly grows in Africa, Australia, and the Southwestern United States.
Spreading Wattle
This species is native to Southeastern Australia and is one of the smallest, only growing as big as 3 meters. It blooms between springtime and late summer with cream-colored flowers.

Acacia Magickal Uses
One of the most prominent uses for acacia is its spiritual purposes. Burned acacia leaves are an effective way to communicate with the dead. The acacia tree symbolizes the afterlife, so it has a deep-rooted connection with those who have departed as a form of bridge between our world and the spirit world. The smoke made of burning leaves acts as a passageway where your voice can be heard by the departed for answers or to ask for assistance. If you are not able to burn acacia leaves, you can rub them on white candles to charge them with the same energy for your spells.
Acacia can also be used in spells for protection. Carrying pieces of the bark or adding some into a protective satchel will keep negative energies away and prevent you from being tricked by your peers. Dried acacia gum can boost psychic power when combined with sandalwood. You will fall into a meditative state easier through both acacia gum and sandalwood burning, and if combined with other loose herbs, it can also increase your personal power.
Acacia trees are believed to be beacons to the gods, meaning that it is easier to contact the gods using the tree as a post office, so to speak. You can leave offerings to your god and requests for help at the base of the tree for a couple of days, and when you go to check on them, you may see the offerings touched or sense a pocket of energy that your god has left behind for only you to use.
Acacia Medicinal Uses
Acacia has several medicinal properties that have been used pretty regularly throughout history and even today. Although, as always, consult your doctor before using any new health substance to make sure it will not harm you or affect any medication you may be taking.
Acacia has been used in topical treatments to treat and heal wounds. Experiments have shown that the healing power may come from a mix of chemicals like alkaloids, glycosides, and flavonoids. In a study made using the species Acacia caesia, the wounds that were treated with it had a quicker healing time than standard wound care treatments.
An extract from acacia catechu is sometimes used in dental products to prevent gingivitis. By turning the extract into a powder, it can be used to make an herbal toothpaste that can clean teeth without being abrasive and damaging the surface of the teeth. A study done in 1999 proved that this herbal tooth powder was able to clean and clear nearly all of the plaque from teeth.
The acacia tree is ideal for spiritual needs and protection spells that are relatively easy for even beginner Witches to perform. Since acacia can be sold in stores, you need to research which in your area do and if it is something you can afford. Pricewise, pieces of acacia should be relatively inexpensive as the trees grow easily, and the harvested pieces do not normally require the tree to be cut down. Once you have found a source of acacia, the main thing is to always thank the tree for allowing its body to be used before you perform a spell or ritual. Be thankful and always show respect, and you should see highly beneficial results. Happy casting!
