Music is a powerful tool that can bring out power from the depths of a Witch’s being. Music can also help create a bridge between our world and the supernatural world by acting as a beacon for direction. Adding music to spells and rituals can enhance the spell, bring better focus, or add atmosphere. One of the strongest forms of musical Magick is a Drum Circle.
These Drum Circles work to beat out stronger magick in a Witch or to summon spirits easier to aid in a spell. Anyone can perform in a Drum Circle, so long as you know what you are doing with the music you create. If you want to add drums to your spells and rituals, let’s learn about what a Drum Circle is first, how to perform one, its power, and how Drum Circles connect to
Magick and Witchcraft.
What is a Drum Circle?
A Drum Circle is usually an informal collection of people who have gathered to make music with percussion instruments. These instruments can range from small hand drums, bells, shakers, and tambourines. Those participating in the Drum Circle sit or stand in an arranged circle that may or may not have something in the center as a focal point.
Drum Circles have ancient roots in cultures across Asia and Africa for traditional purposes, and shamanistic practices in Native American Cultures. In the United States, Drum Circles originated in the late 1960s and early 1970s, where people got together for “jam sessions” just to enjoy the sound of the music. Over time, Drum Circles have developed into two main types in Western Countries, Community Circles, and Facilitated Circles.
Community Drum Circles are free-forming circles that are open for the public to join in and participate. They are often held in public locations so everyone can enjoy the music or jump in to play. In this circle, anything can be used to make the drumming noise, and there is no specific beat being followed.
Facilitated Drum Circles are planned Drum Circles that have people come together and participate for a common goal or purpose. Typically, everyone plays the same instrument or is assigned a specific instrument to play, and everyone is responsible for staying on beat and following the rhythm of the music.
Performing a Drum Circle
The type of Drum Circle performed depends on the goal of the circle. Typically, Drum Circles don’t have a leader as the drummers can feel the beat and rhythm of the music and perform as they want. The participants also don’t need previous experience to participate. Some Drum Circles do need a leader if a specific goal is being aimed for. Performers are also free to dance, chant, and sing in a drum circle. If the Drum Circle is performed at night, bonfires are made, and during the day, objects relating to the spell may be placed in the center as a guiding point.
The Power of a Drum Circle
Drum Circles have more power than being a pleasant sound to have during a spell or ritual. Drum Circles can bring out a stronger sense of Magick than Witches would be able to obtain usually. The steady rhythm of the drums can synchronize with the heartbeats of a Witch, help them focus their minds and Magick, and perform more potent spells and rituals than typical of a collection of Witches. For this reason, Drum Circles can be used to enhance pretty much any type of spell.
Some believe that Drum Circles also can invoke a connection to a being of a higher power. Drums can connect people, so it shouldn’t be surprising that they can also connect Witches to those of a higher form. Many higher beings are drawn to the music or use it as a guide to enter our physical world. On the flip-side, Drum Circles can relax our souls into a deep level of meditation that it can lift out of our bodies and enter the spirit realm in search of guidance or aide.
The Drum Circle and Witchcraft
Drum circles have long been used in Witchcraft as it is believed to have a way of centering the Magick within Witches and providing a guide for spirits to follow. Drum Circles have a stronger influence over the Magick of Witches since it brings together multiple energies for a similar cause. You’ll most likely see Drum Circles performed in Covens or within a community of Witches, as it can help bring the Witches closer to each other, meld their Magick easier, and summon spirits for aid. Witches who perform in Drum Circles need to have intense focus as they’ll need to multitask channeling their Magick and keeping the rhythm of their drums with the other Witches. Drum Circles do need to be performed in a group, so this isn’t a ritual that the Solitary Witch can perform. But if you are lucky to be amongst fellow Witches, then this can be a vital tool for you all to use to enhance Magickal experiences.
Drum Circles are powerful tools for Magick, Magick is usually stronger when multiple Witches come together for the same purpose, and Drum Circles prove it. By having your fellow Witches come together and share their Magick via music, there’s a higher chance of a spell coming true. Of course, you still need to consider the purpose of the spell, who you ask to help you, and how long the drums are beaten during the ritual. Depending on these factors, you may need to adjust how long the drums are used to get the results you want. But you do not need to be an expert to use a Drum Circle. So long as you have the faith and confidence, a Drum Circle can be a welcoming and easy tool for you to use in future spells and rituals.
