Spreading Magick from Home

There are times when we want to perform a spell or ritual for someone who is not near us, or connect with our coven when we can’t meet in person. There are times when we know our loved ones are in crisis and want to assist but can’t do it in person. We still want to practice our craft at these times. So what is to be done? We can spread magick from home, doing long-distance spellwork and sending out magick crafts at these times.

Long-Distance Blessings

So much of magick, spellcasting, and ritual is about focusing your intentions. It is turning your thoughts into energy and sending it out for a specific purpose. Because of this, it is easy to adjust slightly to perform a blessing that is meant to travel a long distance. Our intentions travel through the Aether powered by emotion, belief, focus, and energy. The Aether doesn’t know distance or time, so it doesn’t matter how near or far the recipient is. It matters how much power you can give based on your belief and focus.

While any spell or ritual can be performed, you may need to make small adjustments in order to focus the result on a recipient that is far away. This might require small tweaks in the spell you are working with. For example, you may not frequently use your wand in your spellwork, but it is a strong tool for focusing and directing energy. Incorporating it into your long-distance blessing will help you direct the spell’s energy to the correct location. If the blessing you are doing doesn’t include wandwork, you’ll need to make small adjustments to incorporate its use into the blessing.

If the blessing is for a specific person or group of people, having their photos on your altar as you perform the blessing will help correctly direct the energy. It will help you maintain focus on the result you are aiming for. Meditate and bring them completely into your mind’s eye. Visualize them in your space. What are they wearing? How are they moving? How do they breathe? The more of them you can conjure into your space, the easier it is to send a blessing to them. If you have an object of theirs you can place on the altar during the blessing, that helps as well. (You aren’t blessing the object, but hitchhiking on its connection to your recipient.)

Visualization helps here too. You can choose a visual that speaks to you. Imagine a wire that connects you to the person or group you are doing the blessing for. The blessing travels along the wire like a spark of electricity. You can also imagine a wave of energy that moves through the distance, gaining momentum until it reaches the desired destination. Imagine a flower that floats on a windstream to your recipient. Perhaps a vacuum-tube, like at the bank drive-thru, that you can shoot your blessing through is a more apt visualization for you. You need to choose what works best for you, something you can hold for a decent length of time.

Long-distance blessings work best if the recipient knows a blessing is coming and is open to the energies of it. Most Wiccans consider it wrong to perform a spell - even a blessing - on someone without their consent. Whether you hold that belief or not, it does weaken your spell if they are against it or unaware of it. If they are open and receptive to spellwork, the energy of the blessing has a much better chance of reaching its destination. To that end, having them on a video call while performing the blessing is a great way of connecting your recipient to the blessing.

Mail Magickal Objects

You can also bless and send different magickal objects to someone to help them from afar. So much of Witchcraft involves the common use of the word craft. You can create a physical blessing to convey the magick you want to pass on to someone far away.

If your recipient is a fellow Witch, or someone at least very open to the Craft and magickal energies, a spell candle is a wonderful way to pass along a blessing. Make the candle yourself, imbuing it with your blessing (choosing colors and ingredients that correspond to the type of blessing, creating sigils and symbols as you stir the wax, even carving them into the wax once it has hardened). Every time your recipient lights the candle, the blessing is ignited itself. If your recipient is willing, you can also write a spell and send it along with the candle. Give them a short incantation to say each time they light it, to strengthen the blessing.

You can also craft wreaths, Witch’s Ladders, or other items meant to convey blessings or protection. If you are trying to protect their home, something to hang on their front door or place just inside is great. For the person, something they can wear or easily carry. If crafting isn’t really in your skill set, you can bless existing objects to send. Or, if your recipient is crafty, bless the components and be sure to include pieces that have their own magickal correspondences related to the blessing type. Send them the components to assemble themselves. This puts a little bit of themselves into the blessing, which strengthens it.

Kitchen witchery is also a great way to send a blessing long distance. Choose something that can handle being shipped, such as cookies or spice blends. Kitchen witchery involves a few ways of imbuing the food or drink with the blessing. You choose some ingredients that have magickal properties. You focus your intention on the blessing and recipient. You recite an incantation as you work. You stir in deliberate shapes, creating sigils and symbols that correspond to the spell. This infuses what you are making with the intended blessing.

In a perfect world, we could easily see everyone we want to perform a blessing for. Since that isn’t always the case, long-distance blessings are a great alternative.
