Rose quartz is one of the many varieties of quartz crystal that occurs across the globe and is considered a semi-precious stone. Although deposits are found in most counties, rose quartz occurs most abundantly in Brazil, India, Madagascar, Mozambique, South Africa, and Sri Lanka.
Since the earliest time, rose quartz has been associated with love and beauty. Face masks made from rose quartz were discovered in many ancient Egyptian tombs, and beauty accessories made of it are still used today. Its soothing and healing properties encourage relaxation of the facial muscles, and you can buy derma rollers and face masks at many natural beauty retailers. Pure water infused with rose quartz can also be used directly on the skin as a toner.
For centuries, women have relied on it to support the female reproductive system, increase fertility, and improve the feminine libido. You can use rose quartz to help heal post-partum depression and recover from the trauma of a complicated birth or the loss of a baby too.
Honored and prized by ancient and modern oriental cultures, you’ll find old and contemporary rose quartz carvings, statues, and jewelry in temples, museums, and homes. In mythology, rose quartz was said to have come from the blood of the Greek goddess Aphrodite (Venus in Roman mythology). As she rushed to save her lover Adonis from an attack by Ares, the god of war, she got caught in a thorn bush. When she reached Adonis, their blood mingled on the white quartz flooring, staining it pink. That’s why to this day, rose quartz is considered the stone of love and lovers.
Love isn’t its Only Property
This gentle stone that’s so appealing to the eye and emotions has many potent properties, one of them being that it’s a seeker transformer crystal. These are stones that have a natural energy structure that readily aligns with the power of the mind. Rose quartz is perfect for opening the mind to new opportunities and hidden potential, be it a different way of doing things, finding results, discovering talents, or making a whole fresh start in life. Think of it as something like a compass or a pointer to show you the way.
If you’re looking for transformation, self-improvement, or just to break out of a rut, wear rose quartz jewelry or keep a tumbled or carved stone close by at all times. When you get your crystal, cleanse and charge it and then program it with your intention. Say, for example, you want to become an A-student in science or get a promotion at work – set that intention while holding the stone in both hands. Visualize what you want to achieve; see it happening in your mind’s eye. Then channel that vision and intention into the rose quartz crystal. Make it your companion stone like your BFF that never leaves your side, even while you’re sleeping.
Also, use rose quartz as a companion stone if you have deep-rooted emotional and mental pain that’s unresolved. This can be caused by trauma at any time in your life; it could be generational and even karmic. Often people carry fears, pain, and even phobias that they can’t understand or explain, but that cause them great suffering. The gentle pink energy that resonates from rose quartz can reach deep into your heart chakra to soothe, comfort, and bring pure healing love. Through meditation and self-reflection, it can help heal anxiety, fear, anger, and resentment and open your heart to self-forgiveness, the forgiveness of others, and self-acceptance. With a solid foundation of inner peace and serenity, you can heal and open your heart to being loved and giving love without fear.
The Stone of the Divine Feminine
Associated with the earth element and the goddess Aphrodite (or Venus), rose quartz has potent feminine energy. Often referred to as a mothering crystal, it brings an abundance of love, comfort, and care to the wearer. This by no means implies that it’s a stone for women and girls only. Men and boys need nurturing just as much.
Rose quartz can reach deep into the heart chakra connecting it to the healing energy of Mother Earth and also the archetypical energies of the Aphrodite and Venus.
Use the energy of rose quartz to:
Bring a mother’s love into your life if you were raised without a mother or if your mother passed away.
Soothe a scared or unconfident child, whether it’s night time dread, fear of going to school, or undergoing a procedure at the doctor or dentist, etc.
Move through the pain of any betrayal so that you can understand it, forgive, and move on (hopefully without the person who betrayed you).
Heal a broken heart caused by any loss, from death to being diagnosed with a life-threatening disease, losing a limb or any of your senses, career failure or loss of your possessions, etc.
Repair damaged relationships by calming the irrational and heightened emotions and opening minds to sensible thinking, openness, and honesty.
Soothe your mind and heal your heart and emotions after a divorce or a break-up.
Program the crystal with what needs healing, and then keep it with you always. When things get tough, hold it in your hands, and feel the motherly energy surround you and penetrate deep into the recesses of your aching heart and soul.
For children, program the stone and either keep it close to them or give it to them. Most children over the age of three stop putting random things into their mouths; however, considering that a rose quartz crystal can look like candy, it might be better to wait until around the age of five before giving them the crystal. When you do, tell them that this is their special crystal that will help them when they’re scared, and they must keep it for strength.
