Unlock the Magick of Ostara! - Your Wicca Magazine Issue Awaits
Step into the season of light with Wicca Magazine. Each digital issue is a sacred offering of spells, rituals, and Wiccan wisdom — honoring ancient paths and empowering your modern magick. Your craft, your journey, your magickal sanctuary.
We have had many articles on kitchen witchery over the past few years (you can see them in previous issues, from an introduction to what kitchen witchery is to detailed ritual recipes and breakdowns of the properties of different foods.) Using kitchen witchery at a sabbat or for a specific purpose in a one-off way certainly has its place and shouldn’t be discounted, especially when paired with other ritual and spell work. But don’t overlook the ways you can incorporate certain intentions and energies into your life over longer periods. Kitchen witchery is one of the greatest pathways to manifesting your intentions because it incorporates magick throughout the day, every day.
By adopting a diet dedicated to a specific energy, you focus your intention on manifesting it with every meal. These are not diets of the “Slim Down for Summer” type, but rather recommendations for the types of foods and meals to incorporate over an extended time based on a specific energy you are trying to manifest. It is important to remain balanced, so think of these as additions, not the sole foods you can eat. You need other magickal energies as well, so don’t eat foods of only one magickal type exclusively, but keep your intention focused on the primary energy you are working with. Make sure you are getting all the nutrients and energy you need from your food.
We’ll discuss a few different types of magickal diets here, but there are a few things to remember regardless of the type you might adopt. Don’t struggle through eating a meal made up of foods you don’t like. While every meal and snack has the potential to be magickal, it doesn’t have to be. If only a select number of foods agree with your palate, don’t force yourself to eat something that doesn’t bring you joy. You are counteracting the energy by doing that. By all means, try new foods! Attempt things you haven’t before; try foods you dislike in new ways or new combinations to see if you like them. But if you know you just can’t eat something, don’t fret. Focus on the meals you can add something with the energy to. If you have allergies or other dietary restrictions, we have an article discussing substitutes, but hopefully, our lists with each diet include at least a few things you can incorporate. And don’t overindulge! A little goes a long way. Don’t risk your health trying to increase the energy.
Commit to the energy diet you are working with. Don’t switch between energies from day to day, don’t work with multiple energies at once, and make a meal plan to stay on track. Prepare, serve, and eat with intention. Consider donating food once a week or once a month during your energy diet to increase the energy’s universal goodwill. Remember that length will vary. You may only need 5–7 days of a love diet to re-establish a connection with your partner, but you might need several weeks for a spirituality diet. It is also important to remember that the foods listed for each energy type might have that energy as one of a few energies, which is why preparing, serving, and eating with intention and visualization is so important.
There are many more magickal diets you can set your intention and focus on, which we will cover in future issues. Here we will cover Love, Money, and Spirituality Diets.
Foods strong in the energy of love work for all types of love: self-love, romantic love, friendship, families. What they should not be used for, though, is trying to manipulate someone who is unaware of your intentions into loving you. If love is lacking in your life – or going stale – start with your intentions focused on self-love. Once you have achieved that, move on to a diet aimed at attracting love to yourself or at renewing and strengthening the love you already have. When another person is going to eat the meal, have them participate in the preparation – with full knowledge that the intent of the meal is to increase love. If they are more of a hindrance than a help in the kitchen, let them know as you are serving that the foods are meant to increase love. It is important to note these are not aphrodisiacs – these foods are not focused on arousal and sex but on love. Visualize your intention as you prepare, serve, and eat the foods. Burn a pink candle as you prepare the foods and incorporate any folk traditions for love (such as eating 9 nuts after visualizing love while holding each).

Eating diets meant to attract money and fortune is nothing new – they’ve existed for as long as money has. Southern tradition says to eat collard greens at New Year’s (as part of a larger lucky meal) to bring money to you in the new year. You can bring energies for increased income and draw money to you with an intention-focused money diet (paired with keeping your intention focused in other areas and acting on signs the universe gives you).
This diet opens you to allow money to come to you – but it will likely still require some work on your part. And don’t forget to pay it forward when you do get a temporary or permanent influx of money. You’ll see some foods here that were included in the love diet section, which is why it is so important to engage in a magickal diet with intention and visualization. Make sure you are drawing out the right energy of the food you are consuming. Burn a green candle in the kitchen when preparing foods for a money energy diet.

There are some foods that should be eaten in small quantities (or not at all when possible) when following a magickal spirituality diet. These foods work against spiritual awareness, severing connections and preventing you from being as open as possible. If you can’t fully eliminate them, greatly reduce their presence when following the diet.
Focus on fresh foods. Artificially flavored foods, dried and dehydrated foods, and preserved foods work against spiritual awareness. Save the steak and potatoes for another intention – root vegetables and meat don’t help a spirituality diet. Salt (which acts as a preservative) is also a bad addition to spiritual diets.
