Embrace the Energy of Ostara

Ostara celebrates the spring equinox. It’s a time of new life and also new beginnings. The world around us is once again awakening, and we should be too. The sabbat is a day of perfect balance between rousing and rest, light and darkness, and day and night. It offers us the opportunity to get rid of what no longer serves us to clear the way for newness, filled with joy, excited anticipation, and wonder.

Where Imbolc heralded in the return of the light, Ostara ushers in the emerging of new life on earth, the goddess transitioned from the crone to the maiden at Imbolc and gave birth to the god. At Ostara, the young god is thriving and bursting with playful energy. The maiden goddess is strong, nurturing, beautiful, and brimming with vibrant abundance and creativity. She beckons us to join her, opening her arms to embrace us with newfound balance, light, growth, and possibilities.

Sometimes we’re Slow to Catch up Though

Unfortunately, people don’t always adapt as quickly as nature does. That’s because we’re inclined to hold on to negativity rather than release it. The long, cold winter months can take their toll. Icy early morning commutes under gloomy skies, long nights, and the endless demand of daily life can leave us feeling depleted. It’s proven that the human body burns more energy in winter and that our minds can be negatively impacted by cold, dreary weather. It has a name, Seasonal Affective Disorder, or winter depression.

If you’re feeling the post-winter-blues, heed the goddesse’s call. Please take a deep breath and walk into her embrace. Allow her warm, nurturing energy to enfold and revitalize you. Let go of the negative, welcome in color and light and free yourself from the drudgery you’ve created around yourself.

We’re All Capable of much more than we Believe

Because of the human mind’s tendency to hold on to the negative, we miss out on so much. It’s a defense mechanism that we develop to protect ourselves. We falsely believe that if we keep adverse events at the forefront, we’ll prevent further hurt or damage. Nature, on the other hand, walks through hard times, spends some time in repose, and then bounces right back with vigor.

Once we’re aware that we hold on to bad experiences for much longer than necessary, we can take action to shed the misery-mantle, let go and move on. Are there things that you’d like to do, but either believe you can’t or couldn’t be bothered? I’m not only speaking about material achievement or reaching great heights. How about just feeling happier, less burdened, and enjoying every day?

Call on the Goddess Ostara to give you the Motivation you Need

Ostara is the perfect time to sow the seeds of a change, improvement, goals, and intentions that you want to manifest. There’s no age limit to living a better life, no insurmountable problem, and no one unworthy of achieving their heart’s desire.

What dreams, wishes, and plans are buried in your heart? Ostara brings a powerful magic of renewal. Call on her to help you to expose those hidden ideas and make them intentions and goals. Remember, though, that although the goddess openly shares her magic, we have to work that magic with genuine intention and decisive action.

Rituals to Capture the Energy of Ostara

I want to share a few rituals that you can do to welcome the goddess and invoke her beautiful, invigorating energy. Whether you’re waiting in eager anticipation to embrace Ostara or you’re ambivalent because you feel worn out, these rituals will get you fired up again.

Ancient pagans used to welcome the arrival of Ostara with massive bonfires lit at dawn. Ignite the creative fire of passion for life that resides in all of us, and Ostara will respond and bestow her abundant energy on you.

Recall the Magic of Childhood

No matter how old we are, our inner child stays with us; it never leaves. Prepare for new beginnings by awakening your inner child who wasn’t yet impacted by life events and external restrictions - this is a practice rather than a ritual that you can do in the weeks before Ostara.

Set some quiet time aside at the same time every day to bring this spontaneous, innocent little you back to life. You can do this in the bath or even just before you fall asleep. Go back in time and visualize the pure awe and joy of how you were. Life was a daily adventure, and every new thing you discovered seemed like magic. You played, tasted, ate, and loved with a magical freedom that you lost a long time ago.

Your inner child is alive and well. Reach out and find the dreams you had back then when you didn’t see obstacles and didn’t know fear. Those dreams still exist. Ask the divine to allow those early hopes and dreams to come to the surface and enter your conscious mind. You can also reach your inner child through dream work.
