Celebrating Beltane as a Solo Practitioner

Beltane is a Sabbat that’s all about celebrating with other people, so what does a solo practitioner do?

Plenty! There’s definitely no need to skip the festivities.

Celebrations are about abundance, vigor, passion, creativity and fertility. Beltane symbolizes the living world and all of nature in completion. Fields of flowers in bloom, leafy trees with branches carrying ripening fruit, nestlings popping their heads out of their nests and crops rising from the fertile earth.

You can certainly celebrate that all on your own! It's also a time to recognize our role in the bigger picture of existence, and in protecting all life so that the cycle of abundance and fertility can continue.

The Advantages of doing it Solo

With there being so many different ways to celebrate Beltane, deciding what to do is easier when you're choosing for yourself. It sounds a bit selfish, but it's a fact. There's no accommodating fussiness, considering personal preferences or putting up with tediousness. You can just do what you want!

Also, you can celebrate in various ways because there’s no time wasting on others and we get everything done much quicker when we’re moving down an open lane. You get to focus on the aspect of Beltane that resonates most with you right now.

8 Ways to Celebrate Beltane as a Solo Practitioner

Here are some ideas you can consider:

Get into nature: walk or hike, or just sit somewhere and feel the grass beneath your feet, the breeze on your face and the sun on you back. You can walk through a forest or fields and collect small branches, flowers and leaves to get crafty or for spells.

Love: if you’re waiting for your twin flame or soul mate, Beltane is an excellent time for love spells and rituals.

Fertility: Beltane is a time of fertility, so if you’re hoping to conceive, fertility spells and rituals will be very potent.

Ritual bath: a ritual bath can be part of a love or fertility spell or ritual, or you can use it for cleansing or relaxing. Collect flower petals and put them in your bathwater.

Get crafty: collect wildflowers and small branches or get them from your garden. Plait a crown or make garlands. Hang them around your altar or wear them.

Make a fire: it doesn’t have to be a bonfire; a candle or two will do fine as well. Get lost in the flames, spend time in light meditation, or focus your intention on something important to you.

Party: dance, sing and have a good meal. Enjoy some floral wine. You can dance around your fire too and seeing that you’re alone, dancing naked isn’t an issue.

Do all of the above: seeing that you’re solo, you can go for an early morning walk, make yourself a crown and garlands, have a ritual bath, do a spell, have a meal and some wine and then dance around your fire.

New Beginnings

Fertility and conception aren’t only about babies. They relate to new beginnings of any kind. Beltane is also about abundance and abundance relates directly to success. This is an excellent time to start something new.

Whether it’s a new lifestyle, a new project, a career change or moving on in life to start anew, Beltane is the time to take your ideas or dreams and start working towards manifesting them. Do a spell or ritual and then fill out that application form, apply for that job or even file for divorce if that’s what’s necessary. The energy of Beltane will support you.

Communicate Beyond the Veil

Beltane is the counter to Samhain, so it’s also a time when the veil between this world and the world on the other side is fragile. If you want to communicate with a passed loved one or just want to reach out to the spirit world, this is the time.

Caste a circle of protection

Set up your altar or surround yourself with Beltane correspondences, have a cup of soothing herbal tea and spend time meditating. Purple is strongly connected with Beltane and also with the crown chakra. Bring in lilac, amethyst and purple candles. Pair them with cedar, red jasper and dark red candles. The combination will keep you grounded while opening your brow and crown chakras to spirit.

Spirit communication can be specific, where you come in intending to reach a particular soul, or random where you’re open to contact with any energy that steps forward. If you want to reach a specific soul, be clear on why. Have one or two questions ready for if they come through and keep it short. Spirit communication takes a lot of effort on both sides, so we usually can’t hold the connection for long.
